skins for CS Source

Hi, guys. I've been trying to get custom skins for CS source going, and it seems to fail all the time.

From what I came to understand, it's a problem with the server enforcing "sv_pure 0", which doesn't allow players to use custom skins for their weapons etc. I have confirmed this because when I set "sv_pure -1" in my client, the server forces it back to 0.

Am I wrong? If not, Is there anyway this could be looked into, or is it intentionally set like that by server hosts (4played.de)?

Warm regards

p.s. I think servers which would want to allow custom skins should be set to "sv_pure -1"

Also, I am using the skins from 2 major CS source skins sites, so I can't imagine why else it would fail:

https://gamebanana.com/skins/games/2

https://www.gamefront.com/games/counter ... weapons-51

I particularly have my eyes on this piece as a replacement for the AK 8-) : https://gamebanana.com/skins/184988

Was trying to edit my post, couldn't see how to, but this is copied and pasted from the console (since I can't seem to upload a screenshot):

] sv_pure
--------------------------------------------------------
sv_pure: Only allow client to use certain files.

-1 - Do not apply any rules or restrict which files the client may load.
0 - Apply rules in cfg/pure_server_minimal.txt only.
1 - Apply rules in cfg/pure_server_full.txt and then cfg/pure_server_whitelist.txt.
2 - Apply rules in cfg/pure_server_full.txt.

See cfg/pure_server_whitelist_example.txt for more details.

The server is using sv_pure 0. (Enforcing consistency for select files only)

I managed to get one skin working, which seems to be accepted across all servers I've tried (4played.de as well as others):

https://www.gamefront.com/games/counter ... -ak47-skin

pretty sweet skin, but doesn't come with any custom sounds - so it's just visual changes.

to install: open your library in steam > right click Counter-Strike Source > Manage > Browse local files > navigate to folders named "cstrike" and then "custom".

Within "custom" folder create a new folder and call it whatever you want (i.e. lalala123).

Open downloaded SWAT AK winrar from provided link, and drag "materials" and "models" folders into the NEWLY CREATED folder within your "custom" folder.

Enjoy.

Please feel free to leave feedback/questions - it's good for the community to share and support one another

P.S. WEBMASTER ATTENTION:

I've noticed that if you browse back and forth between the page of your own post and another page, it will add another view to the counter of views for the forum post when you come back to the page you've posted on. I think this page has about 60 views so far, and maybe half of them are from me browsing back and forth in the forums.

Hey forest,

sounds well that you was being successfully! Thanks for your information for us or other players!
Well done.

We all aren't using any skins or something else. That 's why we are lil inexperienced in such at this point :).

GUYS. I got another AWESOME skin working, and it actually includes sounds. It's a replacement for the AUG.

https://gamebanana.com/skins/180392

The file is a .vpk file, so just drag it straight into the "cstrike > custom" folder, without creating any subfolders (as we did with the AK).

Fire up source and enjoy.

I'm actually trying to make a compilation of cool skins which work, and I was going to wait before posting this so I could post a bunch of weapons altogether, but after trying it, I saw that this was WAY TOO COOL - couldn't wait. So enjoy ^^ ;)

update:

Some skins fail probably because they are out of date, but I realized a USER-controlled error which can cause a skin to fail;

In the cstrike > custom folder, you can create a folder for each gun, e.g.; ak, p228, sig 552, etc.

The main folder's name should be written in smaller lowercase letters, for example: call your ak folder "ak" and

not "Ak" or "AK" - remember to use only small letters. Something about using capital letters for the main skin folder (within

cstrike > custom) causes the game to not load the skin.

Aside from that, got three more new skins working (one is a replacement for the p228 for which I have previously provided

another skin-link ):

1: https://gamebanana.com/skins/167326 - replacement for sig 552, it actually contains two skins; one under sub-folder

labeled "Eotech", and then the 2nd skin is split in the other 4 folders (materials models, scripts, sound) which are in the

same main directory as "Eotech". So either use "Eotech", or the other 4 folders in the same directory - using 2 skins for the

same gun will obviously cause errors.

2: https://gamebanana.com/skins/159929 - very nice skin for p228

3: https://gamebanana.com/skins/16067 - very nice skin for German gsg9 CT (just like with the guns, you just go to cstrike >

custom> and create a new folder called gsg9 (or whatever you want, but in smaller lowercase letters).

Enjoy.

Hi, guys. How is everyone? Long time no play.

https://gamebanana.com/mods/208560 - awesome skin + sounds for the mp5.

.VPK file, so it goes straight into the cstrike > custom folder, without any sub-folders.

Nice to be back to the game 8-)
