Hello guys , I just wanted to vent my frustration concerning the AWP damage within the VIP system. I am so tired of being killed after hiting the enemy and he's left on 1 hp making it very obsolete and useless.
It should be a one hit kill weapon considering you put a limit of 2 per team. If I got a penny for each time I got -108 , -107 , -109 and got killed I would be millionaire by now. Please do something about it , either put hp at 105 or idk. I think many players would relate to this and agree.
Thank you !
AWP damage

Re: AWP damage
disagree.
The AWP is already powerful enough.
So powerful that it had to be limited per team.

Re: AWP damage
So powerful that it leaves the enemy on 1hp because of the vip hp boost , yeah. ^^ Kinda.... Most of the time you need 2 shots to put players down.
Sigh

Re: AWP damage
It's not that easy.
Basic damage values for AWP against players with helmet and Kevlar:
Head: 448
Chest: 112
Stomach: 140
Arms: 115 (arms are not protected by kevlar)
Legs: 86
The basic HP of a VIP player is 110, which he can further increase by killings.
That means, even for a VIP Player, AWP shots to head, breast, stomach, and arms are still lethal.
Only hits to legs can be survived with 24 HP. (14hp for non-VIP) .
So, a VIP needs to make at least one kill himself first (without losing any of his HP) before his HP reach a value of 115, that let's him survive a hit by awp to the chest.
Hits to head, stomach and arms are still lethal at this point.
Another kill would let him survive only hits to his arms, while hits to stomach and head are still lethal.

Re: AWP damage
Then how do I get -108 , -107 , -109 so often ? Doesn't make any sense. By your logic it shouldn't happen and the only way vips could survive is by hitting the legs which is -84. This is so random. If the guy has 125 hp , then I understand that I need two hits to kill. But when the guy litteraly just respawned and kills me because I did -109 , it's unacceptable.
This is just weird and very annoying.

Re: AWP damage
It's not "my logic". It's the official numbers.
But i looked further into it and i think i found the reason for your described behaviour.
The reason you do 108 or 109 damage is caused by a Range modifier that is implemented in the game:
Range Damage Drop-off (Range Modifier)
Every weapon in CS:Source loses piercing power the further the bullet travels.
The AWP has a built-in distance multiplier (Range Modifier) of 0.99 per 500 Hammer Units (approx. 12.7 meters).
The math: The theoretical base damage at point-blank range to the chest area with armor is ~113.85 (which gets rounded down to 113 in-game).
If the VIP opponent is standing quite a bit further away (e.g., on maps like de_dust2 from Long A to spawn,), the distance multiplier kicks in. At a distance of 1,000 to 1,500 Units, for example, the actual damage of the AWP to the chest area drops mathematically right down to 110, 109, or 108 points.
So, you're right, a VIP that stands far enough from you can actually survive a shot in his chest even after spawn.
But, still i think the AWP is powerful enough, as not all of your enemies are VIP with full HP. If you make AWP the instant kill weapon in every case, you will find yourself on a server where noone wants to fight without AWP, and you will have debattes who get's the awp when they're limited to each team.
It's the price you pay for camping with the awp: Kill him instantly, or you're dead.
Seems absolutely fine, as this is the same for any other weapon, if you don't hit the head.
